Unsere Hütte

Location and history

The Salzburgerhütte is located just below the station ” Langwiedboden” of the Gletscherbahn Kaprun, on the so-called Salzburger Boden!

The hut was built in 1878, long before the Kitzsteinhorn was developed in the 1960s with cable cars and lifts. In the past, the tour to the Kitzsteinhorn from the valley was a 2-day hike with an overnight stay at the Salzburger Hütte. For decades, the hut was supplied on foot and with mules, only since the construction of the Gletscherbahn Kaprun was the supply via the cable car and since 2012 via a forest trail.

The hut was over 100 years in the possession of the ÖTK (Austrian Tourist Club) until in 2013 the family Klawunn (since 1978 tenants of the Salzburg hut) bought it and continue as a hiking hut.
